Indian Hockey

·         On March 10, 2008 at the Prince of Wales Country Club (Santiago), eight times gold medallist India failed to qualify for the Olympics for the first time in 80 years following a shocking 0-2 defeat against Britain in the final of the qualifying tournament.

·         Chief coach Joaquim Carvalho has resigned following failure of Indian hockey team to qualify for the Beijing Olympics

·         Indian Hockey Federation vice-president Narender Batra, a bitter critic of “autocratic” functioning of chief KPS Gill has stepped down from his post and called for the IHF's top brass to also resign in the wake of India's failure to qualify for the Olympics.
