Plan: The
Civil Services Examination consists of two successive stages: (i) Civil
Services Preliminary Examination (Objective Type) for the selection of
candidates for the Main Examination; and (ii) Civil Services Main Exam (Written
and Interview) for selection of candidates for various services

Eligibility
Conditions
Nationality: For the Indian Administrative service and
Indian Police Service a candidate must be a citizen of India For other
services, a candidate must be either: a citizen of India or a subject of Nepal
or a subject of Bhutan or a Tibetan refugee…or a person of Indian origin who
has migrated from Pakistan, Bhutan, Srilanka, East Africa countries.
Minimum Educational Qualifications: A candidate must
hold a degree of any of Universities …
Candidates who have appeared at an examination the passing of which would
render them educationally qualified for the Commissions examination but have
not been informed of the results as also the candidates who intend to appear at
such a qualifying examination will also be eligible for admission to the
Preliminary Examination.
Age Limits: A candidate must have attainted the age of 21
years and must not have attained the age of 30 years on August 1 of the year of
exam. Provided that the upper age limit for the post of Asstt. Commandant,
Group `A', `A" in CISF is 28 years only.
The upper age limits prescribed above is relaxable for aspirants hailing from
various categories, for instance (in brief):

Up to a
maximum of five years if a candidate belongs to Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled
Tribe
Up to a
maximum of three years in the case of candidates belongs to OBC …
Up to a
maximum of five years if a candidate had ordinarily been domicile in the State
of J&K …
Up to a
maximum of three years in the case of Defence Services Personnel, disabled in
operations …
Up to a
maximum of five years in the case of ex-servicemen ...
Up to a
maximum of five years in the case of EOs/SSCOs …
Up to a
maximum of ten years in the case of blind deaf-mute and orthopaedically
handicapped persons.
Number of Attempts: Four attempts at the
examination. · Restriction on the number of attempts will not apply in the
cases of candidates belonging to Scheduled Caste or a Scheduled Tribe who are
otherwise eligible · The number of attempts permissible to candidates belonging
to OBC, who are otherwise eligible, shall be seven.
Scheme of CS (Preliminary)
Examination: The Preliminary Examination
consists of two papers of objective type (multiple-choice questions) carrying a
maximum of 450 marks. The Question Papers (Test Booklets) are set in English
& Hindi.

Candidates have the option to answer all the question

either in English or in the same language which they have opted for the Main
