Authority,
in its third
meeting
under the
chairmanship
of S
Regupathy,
assured four
new
tiger
reserves
India.
Sunabeda
Tiger
Reserve,
Shahyadri TR,
Pilibhit TR
and Ratapani
TR
·
These reserves
are Sunabeda
Tiger
Reserve in
Orissa, the
Shahyadri
Tiger
Reserve in
Maharashtra,
the Pilibhit
Tiger
Reserve in
Uttar
Pradesh and
Ratapani
Tiger
Reserve in
Madhya
Pradesh.

Conservation
Authority
accorded
approval to
a proposal
from
Karnataka to
treat the
Nagarahole
National
Park as a
separate
reserve. The
reserve is
presently a
part of the
Bandipur
Tiger
Reserve.

All four
states had
earlier
submitted
proposals to
the Ministry
of
Environment
and Forests
·
UP
got approval
of GoI for
declaring
Pilibhit
Forests in
its Terai
region as a
tiger
reserve.
·
UP
had lost its
tiger
reserve,
the Jim
Corbett
National
Park, to
Uttarakhand
when the
hill state
was carved
out of it.
·
GoI
gave
approval for
declaring
Pilibhit
Forests in
Terai region
as a tiger
reserve...
three more
states get a
reserve each
- Sunabeda
in Orissa,
Shahyadri in
Maharashtra,
and Ratapani
in MP, and
One park as
a separate
reserve.

India has 28
tiger
reserves set
up under the
project
tiger
started in
1973.
·
Eight
new reserves
approved
earlier were

Mudumalai in
Tamil Nadu,

Sanctuary

Park and

Dhubri
Wildlife
Sanctuary in
Madhya
Pradesh,
Udanti and
Sitanadi an
Achanakmar
in Chhattisgarh.
