Om Prakash – Jailed and forgotten

· In June 2006 NDTV reported story of Om Prakash of UP's Mainpuri district. He was released after over 30 years - he was charged with murdering a relative.

· Since then he's been in jail.

· The administration says his papers were lost so there was no trial, no lawyer and no case.

· Arrested, chained, locked up and forgotten, this is the story of Om Prakash

· All the witnesses in this case were dead.

What happened to Prakash is no doubt a tragedy. But the bigger tragedy is that there are several Prakashs in UP.
- Without being tried these men have served their sentence twice over, a sentence some of them may not even have deserved.
